Aveso Delivers to US Army Wireless, Wearable Display Prototypes
Lightweight, low-power device featuring Aveso's shatter-proof flexible displays
has potential to improve communications on the battlefield
Minneapolis, MN, May 19, 2008 – Aveso, Inc., the leader in low-cost, rugged flexible displays, today announced the successful development and delivery of a breakthrough wearable display device prototype to the U.S. Army. The Digital Alert Display Device (DADD), a lightweight, low-power, wireless display device, is designed to make it possible for the first time for soldiers to send and receive text messages and situational alerts on the battlefield using electrochromic flexible displays.
Delivery of the DADD prototypes represents the culmination of two years of Congressionally- funded research and development conducted in partnership with the US Army Communications-Electronics Research Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC). The prototypes were delivered to Mr. Raymond Schulze, Chief, Battle Command Interface Branch of the U.S. CERDEC
Aveso worked together with several partners to integrate its alphanumeric flexible display into the DADD, including Future Skies, who developed the software that allows for the device to interoperate with Force XXI Battle Command, Brigade-and-Below (FBCB2) systems. Lockheed Martin served as the prime contractor on the project and Primordial assisted with the product specification, usability study and focus groups that involved soldiers who had served during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). The DADD device showcases Aveso's ability to integrate its rugged display technology into advanced communication devices in both the military and commercial sectors.
